VATE Prologue: An Online Webinar for Pre-Service Teachers

This pre-service teacher webinar will centre around the discussion prompt, ‘Things I know now I wish I knew then’. Dialogic in nature, the panel will respond to questions from pre-service teachers about the realities of first year teaching and ways of coping with the transition from university studies to life in a school. This panel aims to develop a supportive and safe environment which holds space for worries, concerns, and hopes, with questions collected from participants throughout.

The webinar will bring together English teachers Francesca Ohlert (Carey Baptist Grammar School) and Ward Buckeridge (Bendigo Senior Secondary College) to share their philosophical and pedagogical approaches to life in a school teaching English. They will answer and explore questions around curriculum and lesson planning, teaching the language modes, managing English classrooms and professional learning. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions, seek practical advice, and share concerns, worries and emotions about starting your career as a teacher via Slido prior to the event or you can ask during the webinar!

This webinar has been developed as a way to engage with, advocate for and support emerging English pre-service teachers. This webinar also provides you with an opportunity to connect with the work of VATE and practicing English teachers.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be emailed to events@vate.org.au. Cancellations received by 12pm five working days prior to the event date will be charged a 15% cancellation fee. Cancellations received after this will receive NO REFUND. Registrations can, however, be transferred to another staff member. Please email events@vate.org.au the details. If you do not attend and have not notified VATE according to the above policy, you will receive no refund.  Please note: If this event is cancelled due to COVID government or venue restrictions, you will receive a full refund.
